The Alternative Foundation was founded in 2019, as a spin-off from The Cedar Tree Foundation, Cedar Tree has supported environmental programs at a variety of organizations nationally and in Detroit since 2002.

Alternative Foundation funds projects that support, protect, and improve the quality of life for long-term Detroit residents through innovative, educational and enrichment programs. We make small grants to organizations that focus on food systems, youth entrepreneurship and community redevelopment.

One of the newest foundation in Detroit, Alternative Foundation is located in The Hunt Street Station, Located on the on the corner of Gratiot and Hunt Street—the southwestern tip of the McDougall Hunt Neighborhood.
